Shalakya Tantra
Shalakya Tantra is one of the most important subject in Ashtang Ayurveda as mentioned in Sushruta samhita. Sushruta Samhita is a principal treatise which was written by Acharya Sushruta also revered as father of surgery. The Shalakya Tantra Department deals with diseases above the clavicle (ऊर्ध्वजत्रुगत रोग) such as the diseases of Eye (नेत्ररोग), Ear (कर्णरोग), Nose (नासारोग), Throat (गलरोग), Head (शिरोरोग) & Orodental diseases (मुख एवं दंतरोग). The term “Shalakya tantra” is derived from ‘Shalaka,’ meaning probe, reflecting its emphasis on specialized instruments. It is an important subject which deals with the prevention and the treatment of the diseases
Shalakya Tantra Department is treating large number of patients on the basis of Ayurvedic fundamentals, it is popular and giving its services by the different procedures like Shirodhara, Nasyakarma, Netratarpana, Anjana, Kaval, Karnapurana, Pindi, Vidalaka etc.
DEPARTMENT INITIATIVES
- The objectives of the department include providing comprehensive training in teaching and skills in diagnosis and management, emphasizing Ayurvedic treatment procedures and para-surgical training to produce competent practitioners in Shalakya Tantra.
- The department aims to conduct research to analyze and apply Ayurvedic principles in Shalakya Tantra effectively by integrating modern sciences with Ayurveda.
- The department focuses on delivering excellent patient care services using evidence-based practices in medical and para-surgical management, with a specific emphasis on Ophthalmic, ENT, and Oro dental care.
